Room 103 Readers!

Students continue to take turn reading to classmates in each morning!

We are all feeling very proud of ourselves!

Write On!

We love writing in Room 103!  Friday was a very busy day of writing in many different ways.

We spent some time writing about why certain people like moms, dads,
teachers, police officers  and firefighters are great!  To do this we tried a strategy that is new to us.  Students loved participating in the write around as they physically were up and rotating around the table adding an idea to each paper!

We then moved to another table at which we wrote a journal page about our own moms and what they are very good at!

We read and edit our news every Friday!

Once jobs are completed one of our favorite choice stations is the writing center!  Students are writing books!

Blue Student Information forms were due on April 15. Oops! If you forgot to return your child's form, please send it with them when we return from spring break on Monday, April 25. In addition, if you would like to request a conference with Mrs. Hoyt and Ms. Bennett, please let us know A.S.A.P.

Technology Lessons - Part II

Today we had another technology lesson with Mrs. Ardizzoni at the LTC!  She presented on how we will utilize technologies such as headphones, the computer monitor and the mouse and then allowed us to reinforce some skills we have been learning by playing some games on a safe, teacher approved site:  www.ABCYA.com!



We listened and answered questions about our 5 senses, completed dot to dot challenges by counting numerically through the teens and then played a number recognition bingo game.

Students very much enjoyed this learned opportunity!

Ms Carney stopped in to support us as we learned on the computers!

Ms. Bennett helped us as we changed from one activity to another.

Water, water, water

The weather is slowly getting warmer and your children are thirsty!  They are welcome to use water fountains but it is much easier for them when they have a water bottle at their cubby.  Please send in a water bottle that they may use.  They can bring it home daily or leave it on top of their cubby.  We would like to encourage them to drink as needed but would like to ensure they are not leaving the room too much!

Be Safe on the Internet!

Safety is our number one priority!

Mrs. Ardizzoni visited room 103 on Thursday afternoon to present a lesson on internet safety!  We discussed some important rules about using internet devices.

1- Always ask a grown up (mom or dad) for permission before playing any games or using any devices.

2- Never communicate with strangers.  Many of us skype/facetime and communicate with friends and family but we do not connect with strangers.

3- Only visit sites and apps that our grown ups agree are appropriate for us.

We watched a short video pertaining to internet safety and then visited a couple of teacher approved sites!  Students loved seeing themselves on the class blog and really enjoyed learning about animals at the San Diego Zoo site!

Reading to Peers!

Selecting a book that a student feels comfortable with and then agreeing to share it by reading it aloud to his/her peers has quickly become a very popular activity.  Each day Mrs. Hoyt invites a willing participant to sit in the rocking chair and offer a morning read aloud!

Students love having an audience and a purpose for presenting!  We also love singing at the end of the day!  Each day someone leads us in the song..........Kindergarten, Kindergarten, what do you say?  What was your favorite part of today?

It has served as a great way to recap our day's activities and to reflect on all we have done!

Our police officers are always thinking about safety!

With many careers in mind, students were happy to sit down and write about their future career plans this morning!

Artists, doctors and policemen alike all explored some artistic challenges when we painted diagonal lines with pastel colors!

Support Pine Glen Teacher in the Boston Marathon

BOSTON STRONG DAY

April 15th

Join Student Council Friday, April 15th to support Pine Glen 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Visocchi’s RUN for Mass General Hospital’s FIGHTING against childhood cancer in the Boston Marathon!

Wear blue and yellow or running clothes to show your support! Student Council is asking for a $1 donation to go to Mass General!

Also be sure to congratulate Mrs. Visocchi for running in the Boston Marathon! We hope you participate in our school wide fundraiser!

Homes Needed for Vacation Week

The Science Center is looking for homes for some of its animals over April vacation. gerbils snapping/water turtles --The Science Center will provide cage, food, bedding, and care sheet for each animal. --CALL MS. WENDY PAVLICEK AT (781)-270-2928 if interested.   --Animals are distributed on a first come, first serve basis.   --All animals must be picked up before Friday by making an appointment with Ms. Pavlicek.

We Love to Read!

Finding a quiet spot and reading to a friend brings all of us such joy!

We feel very proud of ourselves when we can share what we can do!

We cooperate and help each other when we get stuck on challenging words!

We are all reading rock stars!

Taking turns.......you read while I listen and then I'll read while you listen!

Each day we make time to read.  We listen to books read to the class, we read in our reading groups, to ourselves and to one another!  Recently, students have been taking turns reading books to the entire class!  We love to read!

We love our trips to the library to listen to the selection of books Ms. Carney has to offer.  This past week we listed to Akili's book, My 5 Senses. We will be working with Ms. Carney and Mrs. Ardizzoni to create a room 103 book of spring poems!

Career Day Dress Up

This coming Friday, April 8, students are invited to come to school dressed as if they were working in their Dream Career!  Earlier this year, our Pine Glen community had a Whip and Nae Nae party as way of recognizing our school wide incentive program that encourages students to demonstrate appropriate, safe and kind behaviors.  We have all been doing or best and now we will celebrate our efforts with this dress up day!

This is an optional fun activity!  Please watch for notices going home with students later this week!
