102nd Day As Fun As First

We may be 102 days into our school year but our students continue to embrace all the learning and fun as if it is the first day of school!  We love school and all the opportunities we have each day!

After our trip to the library this morning we got busy sounding out and writing CVC words.  What an impressive job!  Ms. Sacco returned and was further impressed with our passion for books and how persuasive we were when creating book posters!

Journal time included writing about how enthused we are to have One-eyed Willie visiting with us!

Our afternoon math session included decomposing numbers, utilizing our ST Math and Symphony apps, working with teen numbers and programming robots!

Get Ready to Read

Room 103 is full of student who are becoming fond of reading! As our confidence grows, so does our passion! To celebrate reading we will participate in an array of activities next week! Each day we will spend extra time reading and being read to!

Monday, March 2 -  “Cat in the Hat”  Bring in a Dr. Seuss book to read and share! 

We will be introducing the grades K and 4 read-a-thon today!

Tuesday, March 3- “Fox in Socks”- wear silly or mismatched socks. 

Two socks, whose socks, How about some new socks?! - Pine Glen was so generous during our soup collection, Room 103 students are invited to bring in a new pair of adult socks.  Mrs. Hoyt will make sure they are shared at a local shelter to help keep others warm!

Wednesday, March 4- “Wacky Wednesday” - Let’s get silly!  

Wear your clothes backwards, inside out, or mismatched.

Thursday, March 5 - “Sleep Book” Students are welcome to wear their pajamas. 

Friday, March 6 -  Students are welcome to bring a book to school that they can read independently.  We will be culminating our celebratory week of reading by reading throughout Pine Glen!  Stay tuned readers.

Pine Glen Carnival Needs Volunteers

The Pine Glen Spring Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, March 28.  As always, the kids and families have a great time!  This annual event generates the majority of the funds that are made available to school through the PTO.

Our PTO supports us in many ways including providing supplemental funding to support field trips and purchasing t-shirts for kindergarten students to wear when we go on trips!  

Mrs. Hoyt will be there selling raffle tickets all day and hopes to see families enjoying the day and parents volunteering!

Zoologists Persuade Ms. P To Bring Another Pet

Room 103 has a room full of zoologists who were able to persuade Ms. P to stop by and loan us another animal!  One-eyed Willie the crayfish will be with us for a few weeks thank to the writing campaign waged by kindergartners who were eager to learn more about animals!  

We learned that Willie is an active, frisky animal and only had one eye because he has engaged in a few battles with other crayfish.  While he does live in the water he is not a fish.  Rather he is a crustacean that likes to crawl and eat whatever it can find along the bottom of the tank.  We will be putting food in on Thursday for Willie to find!

We Love Books

We love reading and are excited to share our enthusiasm for the books we enjoy!

Burlington Public Schools Literacy Coach, Renee Sacco was in to work with us today. She told us about one of her favorite books, The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey.   Students shared their fiction and non-fiction stories along with chapter books and series!  We love books!

We are so confident that you too would enjoy these books that we are preparing to persuade you to read them by creating publicity posters and infomercials. Tune in soon to see what we produce!

100 Is A Lot Of Fun

We had great fun celebrating our 100th day of kindergarten.

Mrs. B spent some time with us and was very impressed with everyone's ability to count to 100!

We colored 100 items hidden in a picture of the number 100.

We wrote 100 words.

We wrote about our 100th day.

And we sorted 100 cups and stacked them in numerical order!

JiJi Is Proud Of Us

Congratulations Room 103!    1/3 of our students have reached 100%!  Our class has achieved 70%!  We have hard working mathematicians!

Benjamin has reached 100%!  Nice job!

Books

We are getting excited about sharing our favorite books tomorrow.  Reminder - please send in both book and form as these will aid us as we produce posters to persuade others to read our books!

Sensory Science Bottles

We had a great time sharing our sensory science bottles that were created over the February break!  They will be used as resources in our classroom to help us stay in the green zone!  Great job everyone.
