Best Wishes to Room 103

Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr said good bye to students today. We wish each and everyone a splendid summer break. Please remember to write to us and visit when we return in September!

SUMMER CHALLENGE

We had a wonderful year in room 103 and are so lucky to have spent this time with our kindergarten friends. Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr know all our friends are going to do great in in the future!  Over the summer we will be working hard to prepare for next year, reading, taking classes, writing curriculum and relaxing with our families. As you race off into summer we encourage all to rest, relax, play and read too!  We strongly encourage our students to keep a journal over the summer!

Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr would LOVE to read about all our students’ summer adventures.  If students write at least once a week every week (at least 10 entries!) of the summer adhering to the kindergarten expectations- at least 3 sentences and an illustration with a minimum of 6 colors (on each entry) a PRIZE will be earned!  Please have the students bring in their journal the first day of school - Fall 2019. We hope we will be reading LOTS of summer journals!

-Burlington public schools offers a summer literacy camp
-The Burlington Public Library sent information home about a summer reading program.
-Barnes and Nobles typically offers a summer reading program.
- Mrs. Hoyt will be happy to share some summer writing prompts for anyone interested.

Future Plans

Recently we wrote about what we hope to learn in school next year.  Here are our aspirations:

I hope to count to the number 5 million.

I hope to write better.

I hope to read better and I hope to do more writing.

I want to do music and gym!

I want to learn to read better because I want to be a guest reader in room 103.  I want to count to really high numbers. I hope to be better at math.

I hope I learn how to count to 1000.  I hope to do first grade ST Math.

I want to learn more about ST Math.

I want to learn about how to write to 2000 and how to write other people’s names.

I want to learn to count to four hundred.

I want to read 1000 books!

I hope I do 1st grade ST Math or 1st grade Symphony math.

I hope I learn how to read a book.

I want to learning writing and spelling and making books.

I want to learn how to research.  I want to learn how to read. I want to learn how do equations.

I hope to learn more about history and to write long sentences and read books.

I hope to learn how to add 100 and 100000000000000 and to learn to read harder books.

I want to do ST Math and I want to play outside with my friends.

I want to learn  to write the number words to 100 and I want to learn to read.  

I like math and want to do it with the first graders.

I want to visit my kindergarten teachers! - We are counting on it!

End of Year Highlights

During the final days of school, we do lots of reflecting upon our amazing year of learning.  Students shared their feelings about the year coming to an end.  (We are happy, sad, excited, nervous and even feeling a little bit of everything about the upcoming changes.)  Mrs. Hoyt reassured us that all of our feelings are okay.

We then discussed what our favorite part of kindergarten has been.  The conversation was lively as there were many ideas!  We loved learning about animals, having grade 4 friends, celebrating birthdays, going to the zoo, dancing and doing math.  We also loved recess, read alouds, writing and our teachers.  Everyone loved their room 103 friends and agreed that we can still be friends even if we are not in the same room next year!

With summer fast approaching we started the day by celebrating our summer birthdays!  We sang "Happy Birthday" 8 times!  

Burlington Literacy Coach, Renee Sacco stopped in to read to us.  We enjoyed both stories she brought and made some great predictions during the stories!

 We reflected upon the great fun we had a water day!  It was a terrific day!

Our friends from grade 4 stopped in and joined us in game day activities!

4th graders have been amazing buddies all year long!  We celebrated our year and then lined up for a group photo!

We had a wonderful wet day!  We played in small pools, dunked teachers, pranced through a sprinkler and enjoyed water balloon fun.

Help Wanted

Kindergarten Water Day -  Monday, June 17

We have changed the date for our kindergarten water day and are in need of parent volunteers. If you are able to join us, please contact Mrs. Hoyt.

If the weather cooperates with us we will celebrate the end of kindergarten with a water day!  Please send your child to school with a bathing suit, towel, some type of shoe that can be worn in the water, and some type of cover-up.  Also, please apply sunscreen to your child before sending them to school.
