Good Bye For Now - Summer Writing Challenge
We had a wonderful year in room 103 and are so lucky to have spent this time with our kindergarten friends. Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr know all our friends are going to do great next year. Over the summer we will be working hard to prepare for next year, reading, taking classes, writing curriculum and relaxing with our families. We encourage all of you to rest, relax, play and read all summer too! Remember we encourage our students to read and keep a journal over the summer!
SUMMER CHALLENGE
Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr would LOVE to read about all our (now former) students summer adventures. If students write at least once a week every week (at least 10 entries!) of the summer adhering to the kindergarten expectations- at least 3 sentences and an illustration with 6 colors (on each entry) a PRIZE will be earned! Please have the students bring in their journal the first day of first grade- August 29, 2022. We hope we will be reading LOTS of summer journals! We have done this for a few years now and really look forward to celebrating with students in the fall!

Book Bonanza
We are lovers of books! To celebrate the end of the year we had many books read to us and shared with us. Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr cleared up some shelves and shared some books with students to keep. We had fun books read to us by Mrs. Hoyt, Mrs. Kerr, Mrs. B. and first grade teacher Mrs. Coppola!
Dunk Tank Fun
The last PBIS reward for the year was the dunk tank! Students had an opportunity to dunk some teachers!

Preparing For Transitions
This week we have had lots of converstions about transitions. We miss friends who have already left for the summer and are thinkgin about our classmate who moved away.
We discussed our feelings as we head into our final days. We have lots of big feelings, often conflicting feelings at the same time! We know that it is okay! We know we will be okay.
Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr are reading lots of books about this.
We also have some special reading opportunities!
Arya read a great book to us about Malala Yousafzai.
We visited first grade teacher Mrs. Bourgeois and listened to a story in her room. Mrs. Bourgeois welcomed us in and invited us to ask questions about first grade. Her current students were super helpful in putting us at ease.

Bright Futures
Today we celebrated the 5th graders as they had a moving up ceremony. The entire school met them outside as they walked to the front of the school for a special ceremony.
We wore our sunglasses and carried signs. The message?
Your future is so bright you need to wear sunglasses!
Our kindergarteners, soon to be first graders, also have bright futures! We are so proud of them!
Calling Brazil
We exchanged learning and had conversation with students in Brazil today! We used our conversational skills to compare and contrast the school experiences of our class with 5 year olds in Brazil. What a tremendous opportunity arranged by our ESL teacher, Mrs. Castro!
All of room 103 helped to prepare for the Google Meet by contributing to a video that was sent to the Cometa da Alegria School. We then review information shared by them and prepared our questions prior to the call.
Mrs. Castro lead the meeting and helped us in conversation by translating for the class. It was a thrill for all! We have many similarities and differences! Both groups enjoy snack and recess. We learned that children in Brazil do not have an indoor gymnasion. We even shared hte name of one of our favorite books, suggesting that if the book can be translated, students would love it. Prior to hanging up, Mrs. Castro presented students with special artwork sent to each student in room 103. Our new friends in Brazil had mailed them to us! We ended by sharing a special song and promising to write back!
