Nature Walk

 Thursday morning we went on our Nature Walk with Ms. P. from the Burlington Science Center. We went hunting for living and non living items on our walk. We all had a great time seeing, touching and exploring in nature. Ask your student what they found on the walk that was living and non living and how they know!

New Drop Off Procedure Begins October 4

Boom Counting and Dexteria

 On top of class photos we were busy with other novel activites today.  

Our first round of Boom Counting was played!  Be sure to ask your student what it is and how we play.  It was a big hit.

Are you beginning to notice more things in the backgrounds of the photos we post?  Student work and thinking is on display.  Recently we hung our names and a class set of owls!  We are creating anchor charts that help us remember our learning.  The Pine Glen mascot is an owl.  Students earn hoot cards as part of our school-wide behavior system. We encourage students to be WISE.  (WORK to be appropriate,  it is IMPORTANT to be kind and SAFE because EVERYONE matters!). Later in October we hope to learn more about owls and perhaps have the chance to have an owl visit the kindergarten program!

In the afternoon, Mr. Donoff spent some time working with small groups to introduce the Dexteria App.  This fun app involves pinching crabs on the screen to help develop the proper pincher grip for a pencil.  Next time we re-visit the app we will be working on letter and numeral formation on the screen.  It was great fun!

Marvelous Monday

We had a marvelous Monday!  

Today we read out Nursery Rhyme books, learned a new strategy that writers use when they do not know who to spell a work and worked on labelling illustrations.  We also worked on sight words (and, to).  Mr. Lyons even stopped by to visit and was impressed with how we did reading the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?

Fun Friday

 

Mrs. Castro and Mrs. Kerr helped us learn about labelling.  Writers label work to help a reader understand things.

Today we finished working on our first big publication.  We created a colorful book of nursery rhymes.  Next week we will read them before brining them home to share with our families!

Congratulations to Joey.   H was called to the office as one of the Hoots of the week!  Each week, student earn Hoot cards.  Cards are put in a container for a random drawing.  Students work to earn Hoot cards for school-wide rewards.
