Congratulations to kindergarten Hoot of the Week, Isaac!

Thank you to our guest readers:  Mrs. Colburn, Mrs. Mannarino, Mrs. Mulcahy, Mrs. Gupta and Ms. Sacco.  Thank you for sharing so many wonderful stories with us.....and for dancing with us too!

Our guests were sure to be impressed with our reading too.  We read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to them!

Young readers also received another book today!  Thank you to Isaac and his family for donating to our book program.  Everyone received a copy of Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes!

Afternoon activities included an assessment, ST Math, studying and sketching the cockroaches and checking out our Math Stackers.  Last year Room 103 applied for a grant to try out the Math Stacker kit.  It was such a hit that each kindergarten class in Burlington now has Math Stachers!

Our Friday ended with a school wide dance party to celebrate all the Hoot Cards students earned during the month of September!  What wonderful dances they are!

Ms. Kendall invited us to illustrate ourselves in a self portrait and to celebrate what makes us special!

Mrs. Perry joined kindergarteners during recess and lead some games!

Cockroaches!

 

We have our first animal visitors!  Students met Ms. Wendy Pavlicek of the Burlington Science Center today.  Mr. P brought us hissing cockroaches which are now guests in room 103.  

We will watch and learn about them as we begin our year-long study about the needs of living things.  Everyone was enthralled to learn about the vacuum cleaners of the forest.  We learned the cockroaches are nocturnal and many already knew that means they are up at night!  We learned about how they eat and how they use their antennae to understand and feel their environment.

Ms. P taught us that the Hissing Cockroaches are from Madagascar which is an island off the coast of Africa.  We learned that Africa is the 2nd largest continent!
