• If you have not done so already...please make your donations via Venmo @PineGlen-PTO or check!  Donation deadline is Friday June 14th!

• Please send your kids to school in Pine Glen colors or their walkathon shirt from last year!

District Learning Initiative

Way to go Trey!  He is the first student in Room 103 to complete the special assignment we presented as the pilot for the May 23 Distance Learning Initiative.

Mrs. Hoyt will be scheduling a special lunch time for her and Trey!

Parents are welcome to email Mrs. Hoyt with comments/thoughts about the experience as we will be summarizing and providing input back to the District.

Students may still submit work for this assignment if they would like to have a lunch date with Mrs. Hoyt.

Summer Visiting Animal Program Burlington Science Center

The Burlington Science Center is looking for homes for some of its animals over Summer vacation.

Gerbils & Hamsters: (easy-low care)
Box turtles: (eats salad and live insects)-one special needs
Rabbits: (large cage-needs hours of free run time/room to be free-high care animal-more info to come) African Clawed Frogs: (like having fish-eats hand fed worms)
Painted Turtle: (eats live insects-water change-medium care)
Young snapping turtle: (eats live insects-water change-medium care)
Tarantula: (eats live crickets)
Parrot & Cockatiels (senior): (teflon free home, chemical sensitive-messy-experience preferred-need to discuss-serious responsibility)
Corn snake: (eats mice-needs to be kept in freezer)
Gecko Lizard: (eats live insects-need to help pull shed skin off)
Hedgehog: (eats live insects-daily wheel wash-nocturnal)
Water frog: (eats live worms-no handling-like caring for fish tank)

● The Science Center will provide cage, STARTER food, shavings, & care sheet for the animal
   Call Ms. Pavlicek (781)-270-2928 or e-mail pavlicek@bpsk12.org asap if interested. Will need to discuss detail care with Ms. P for all animals.
● Animals are distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
● All animals must be picked up by June 13th making an appointment with Ms. Pavlicek.

Paper Towel Rolls Needed

Please send in empty paper towel rolls by Wednesday, May 29!  We will be using them for our engineering challenge on Thursday.

A Week Full Of Fun

We celebrated a special birthday this week.

Our classroom full of readers enjoyed our weekly trip to the library.

Students tested theories about the impact of the sun and the shade on ice cubes!  We made smart guesses about what might happen and then studied the results.  This experience is a prelude to our efforts to keep a popsicle from melting later this week!

A pair of turtles were delivered to Room 103 this week as well.  Congratulations to our persuasive writers who convinced Ms. P that we should have them in our room!  Dorito and Mia are wonderful class pets!

Career Day

We celebrated Career Day on Friday and students came to school dressed as their future selves!  We have police officers, chefs, fire fighters, veterinarians, professional athletes and more!  We can not wait to see our students in the future!

We Went To The Zoo!

Grade K and 4 took our learning on the road!  Students visited the Franklin Park Zoo today and shared their knowledge of living things!

Thank you to our many teachers and volunteers who made our special day possible!

And a special thank you to the Pine Glen PTO for supporting the kindergarten program!  Kindergarten students were clad in t-shirts donated by the PTO.  In addition the PTO helped fund the trip by covering the cost of a bus!

Pine Glen Walk-a-thon

A message from the Pine Glen PTO:

Hello Pine Glen Families!!!

 

 

Its that time of year again!  Our 5th Annual Pine Glen Walkathon is right around the corner!

 

 

 

When:  Friday May 31st...start time is 9:00!!  

 

Why:  We want to promote physical fitness, build school spirit and have fun!  All while raising valuable funds for Pine Glen.

 

How:  We will be sending home a donation/information form with your children.  

 

You will have the option to donate via Venmo @PineGlen-PTO or by check.  (we did not include envelopes as stated on the form)

 

We have EXTENDED the donation window to Friday June 14th to give you plenty of time to get your donations IN!! (please disregard the carnival tickets as a prize, that was a typo)!!  

 

Please have your child wear green, a Pine Glen shirt OR their walkathon shirt from last year!

 

We would love some volunteers to cheer the children on!  Info will be included in the form we are sending home!  You do need an updated CORI in order to volunteer.

Distance Learning Initiative

16 of our families have signed up for Seesaw!  Our assignment for May 23 has already been posted.  If you are unable to access it, please let me know!

Community Helper

Quinn's mom shared about her job as a community helper today.  She is a sign language interpreter.  Students were enthused to ask questions and learn the signs for a few words.  We even impressed her with our sign language alphabet!

We have wrapped up our study of community helpers!  Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping us learn about your jobs!  Student work about community helpers will go home shortly.

ST Math Party

It was party time in room 103 this afternoon when we invited friends from the other kindergarten classrooms in to work with us!  We borrowed all the i-pads from the first grade classes and each friend was able to log on and work on math!  It was a ST Math party!

We then ended our time together by viewing a story read aloud on Storyline Online.  Everyone enjoyed the story of Arnie the Donut!

Kindergarten Login Instructions

Dear Parents,

Burlington Public Schools is running a distance learning pilot on May 23rd. The purpose of this pilot is to test if the district has the capacity to communicate with parents and send assignments electronically. Grades K-5 will be testing the use of Seesaw as the distance learning tool for communication and assignment distribution. To log into Seesaw and access the assignment for the distance learning pilot, follow the instructions below.

Choose one:

1. For iPhones/iPads (ios devices) download the Seesaw app from iTunes   

2. For Android devices go to Google Play

1. Click on “I’m a student”

2. Select “Tap to Scan QR Code”

3. Select “enable camera”  Scan the QR code that was sent home with your child

4. You will be taken into your child’s Seesaw class. Click on either Activities or Inbox on the right hand side of the window to access the assignment for the distance learning pilot.

5 Senses Spring Poetry

We have explored poetry and in the process created a book that helps us express what we notice about spring using our 5 senses.  A hard copy of this book will be going home with students!

Happy Mother's Day

Over the past few weeks we have sew a garden of love for our moms.  We planted a rainbow!  We have learned about what we need to do to plant and grow flowers...flowers we now present to our moms in honor of mother's day!  Students toted home packages of colorful plants last week.  Please help students care for and present them to mom.  We also created books about our mothers!  Wishing each mom a very special day.

Students were asked to share why they love their moms and why they are great.  Here are some of their thoughts:

They hug us.

They hug and kiss us.

They give us new toys!

They give us kisses when we go to school.

They love us so much!

They give us snacks after school.

They tuck us in.

Much To Celebrate!

We have much to celebrate in Room 103!  This past week we recognized James' birthday, Surya was selected as Hoot of the Week and we had 2 moms in to teach us about their Community Helper jobs!  We love our classroom family and learning together!

Nicholas' mom is a nurse and she brought some supplies to try out!

We are also very proud of ourselves!  We are writing beautiful sentences and use all of the tricks of the trade!
