Then and Now

 Today we had some special guest visitors.  Holly's mom and grandmother came and shared a variety of artifacts that were from their family home in New York.  Multiple generations of the family owned and lived in the same home from 1897 - 1997.  

This was a wonderful connection to our discussions of 100 years ago.

We saw candles and a candle mold.....candles were used before there was electricity for lights.

Ladies would use a muff to keep hands warm when out in the cold.

Imagine a school bell from the 1800's!

A steriopticon helped us learn about entertainment and see how people may have dressed 100 years ago.

A cast iron toy - pretty heavy.

This is a 75 year old stuffed bear!

Children would be given a silver spoon to eat with - this one was engraved with the dates of March 1916.

Need Books? We Have Some Suggestions!

 Not only do students enjoy a good book, they also want to share them with others!  We read many great books during our January reading challenge and decided we should write about our favorite ones. As persuasive writers we created posters to convince others to read our favorite books. Then we wrote scripts and recorded mini commercials to promote our books! Check us out!

Think about all the learning and work that your students did!  They read, discussed and reflected. Formulated thoughts about why others should read the book and then made persuasive posters, wrote scripts and shared their thoughts in videos.  They are amazing!

Special thanks to our friend and teacher, Mrs. Ardizzoni who took our individual video clip and compiled our wonderful presentation!

Wacky Wednesday - March 1

 

Valentine's Day Fun

We love kindergarten and our kindergartners!   

Today we had a festive Valentine's Day. 

We started our day with morning meeting and took photos of all the sweetly dressed Room 103 friends. Then we had our Secret Valentine exchange.  We opened our class valentines and then enjoyed a lovely, fancy lunch! 

After lunch we spent some time writing a reflection about the day, and completing a math activity.

Lots of valentine goodies were sent home today.  We hope you have time to look through everything. Thank you to Mrs. Goetz for coordinating with our Room 103 families for your wonderful contributions! Thank you also to Mrs. Colburn and Mrs. Cabrera and Ms. Yu for joining us to help with all the activities and tasks!   It was a very special day!
