Today is JiJi's birthday!  Happy Birthday JiJi!

We had such a crazy, Crazy Hat day, Mrs. Hoyt was not able to grab a photo of everyone.  Oops!

Joyful Days

 

We are sharing some new class books.  We have written a few poems about colors and spring!

Today we watched a preview of the BHS musical The Addams Family.  The show will be performed this weekend and next  at the high school auditorium. tickets are on sale here 

Teachers were thrilled to see former students who are now young adults.  Even the show director and assistant directors are former Pine Glen students!

Book Study and Two Column Notes

 

On Wednesday we welcomed District Literacy Director, Renee Sacco to lead a lesson on a book we are studying, Hey, Water!   Ms. Sacco helped us delve further into the book topic of water usage and conservation and then invited students to practice writing 2 column notes.  Note taking skills taught early will help learners throughout their education!

Prizes Galore

 

Prizes galore!   Congratulations to Aria who redeemed a prize - Teacher for the day!

We have many Lexia and Symphony achievers.

Parker earned a special prize too - Jiji spent the day learning with him.

Pine Glen students were lucky to meet non-fiction author, Melissa Stewart who shared one of her books and also taught us about all that goes into the writing process.  We learned about trying hard and making lots of revisions.

Mrs. Stewart needed a little help so Mrs. Hoyt volunteered.

Mrs. Nelson stopped in for our cooperative play time.  The lesson started off with a game of 4 corners focussed on our favorite desserts!

Back to Work Today

 

Happy to have volunteers return to school with us today.  We were able to get out hands dirty with some planting.

Birthday celebrations and distribution of certificates to students helped make the start of the day great!

Fantastic Friday

We had a wonderful day of fun working together before heading off to vacation week!

Students arrived clad in pajamas and carrying stuffed animals. We had a full popcorn jar, earned because of all of our hard word and excellent effort.

 

With the lovely weather, we took our learning outside.   Morning meeting and Heggerty were extra special.

Then we did a little math, working on our Topic 13 shapes.  Students were able to create more complicated flat shapes such as a rhombus and trapezoid by drawing simpler shapes like triangles.  Imressive!

and then continued our celebrating with a special visit from Mrs. Fortunato who introduced us to 4 new math games!  She even gifted sets of them to our class.  We will be inviting other classes to join us so we can teach them how to play!

Everyone received a sheet with the game images so they can teach family members at home how to play!

While we were sad to have our fun time end, everyone was all smiles and super grateful to Mrs. Fortunato.

We also expressed our gratitude to friends who have sent the Ramadan season with us during their lunch break.  Eid will be celebrated next week on April 22.   We thanked our buddies for all their time helping us this past month.  Both big kids and kindergartners were sad our daily time together is over.

We are really good at talking with partners about the book, recapping the story, making connections and predictions!
