Contributions Welcome

All classrooms are provided supplies for the year.  However, we never turn down additional donations and seek your help for a few special items.  To start off our school year we would love donations of: 

WET WIPES- antibacterial hand wipes 

Kleenex/Puffs- tissues

hand sanitizer

assorted Zip-lock brand baggies (gallon, quart, sandwich and snack)

Left over small birthday party favors for our prize bin

At various times of the year our Room Parents (volunteer opportunity) may ask for donations to school events, classroom celebrations or creative learning opportunities.  We thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Here are some unique things we are collecting at the moment:

Read Aloud Tips

We are big believers in the benefits of reading aloud to children.  Please make time to read with your son/daughter daily.  Below are some tips from the PBS show "Between the Lions".

* Read to your child every day.  If you can't ask someone else to be your child's designated reader.
* Try to find a regular time and quiet, comfortable place for reading together.
* Turn off other distractions, such as the radio or television.
* Read slowly enough so that your child has time to take in the story and look at the pictures.
* Children may enjoy holding the book or turning the pages.  Invite your child to point to words on the page or help you read the words.  Explain unfamiliar words.
* Encourage your children to ask questions about he characters, pictures, and words.
* Talk about the story with your child.  Did he or she like it? Why?
* Your child may want you to read the same story over and over again. after several retellings, ask your child to tell you the story.
* Older children enjoy reading aloud, too.  They can read their favorite parts, or you can take turns reading chapter books.

Welcome to Room 103

Welcome to Room 103!

Welcome to Kindergarten Room 103 at Pine Glen!  We can not wait to meet all of our incoming students and families.  Letters will be mailed out shortly to students and their parents. Below is a summary of what those letters cover.

- Wednesday, September 4th is our kindergarten orientation.  This is an important day for both parents and students as we will have lots of

information to share and will hopefully answer many of the questions you may have.

-Be sure to bring contact information for cell phones, emergency contacts and medical information as there will be many forms to complete.

-In the note addressed to students I invited them to do two things:

             1) Complete an All About Me page for sharing with new friends.

                     See the tab at the top of the blog to go to the Meet Room 103 page - Mrs. Hoyt's All About Me page has been posted.

             2) Share a picture or video of themselves and a statement

                  about a favorite summer activity by emailing me.  I will post

                  these messages on our class blog!

Greetings Room 103 Friends!

Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr have been busy preparing to meet our incoming students!  We have been taking classes, resting up and organizing the classroom.  Keep checking in for updates as we get closer to the start of the school year!
