Happy Turkey Day

 We had a great Wednesday singing lots of turkey songs, doing turkey exercises, reading turkey books, including Turkey Trouble and the Plump and Perkey Turkey.  We also drew turkeys.

Dear Kindergarten Families,

During this Thanksgiving Holiday, I would like to thank you for your support and cooperation.  I love my job and having students and parents as wonderful as you make it so pleasurable.  Your collaboration has been critical and most appreciated this fall.  

Mr. Hoyt and I are excited that our children will be home from college to visit with us over the Thanksgiving break.  While 2020 is not a typical year, I hope that you will find ways to celebrate with your family and take time to reflect upon all that we have to be grateful for.

Homework expectations are for you and your child to enjoy spending some time with each other!  Of course, time spent reading stories together is always terrific!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your family.

Happy Diwali

Happy Diwali!  

We have begun to talk about the 7 Continents and Holidays we celebrate.  Today we shared some the treats we like to eat on various holidays.  We learned about Moon Cakes for Chinese New Year, Turkey for Thanksgiving,  Gingerbread cookies and Christmas and Indian Sweets for Diwali.  

We learned that although we may not all celebrate the same holidays we have lots in common.  Even if we celebrate the same holidays we may celebrate in a slightly different manner. Then we read Let's Celebrate Diwali - see link here for  Diwali Story.

If your family celebrates Diwali and would like to share some photos of your festivities, please send them along to Mrs. Hoyt and we will share them with the class!

Students of the Week - Nathaniel and Elina

Nathaniel was our student of the week last week.  Our future paleontologist loves dinosaurs!  This week we learn about our joke telling friend Elina!

Tremendous Trees

 

On Friday we had some fun working to create some beautiful trees!  We have many wonderful artists in our class!  Nice job everyone!  

More Pop Up Library

 The Burlington Public Library will host more pop up library opportunities for the community as weather permits.  Stop by today, Friday, November 6, 3 - 5 p.m. to select a few great books!

Pop Up Library Fun

The pop up library sponsored by the Burlington Public Library was a great success yesterday!  A great selection of books was available and if someone could not find a specific book, librarians were on hand to help run into the library to see if they could find it.  There were individual books, book box kits and more.

The highlight for Mrs. Hoyt was seeing former students and families and meeting some of our current families in person for the first time!  If you made it and I missed you I am sorry.  However I did get to meet Elina, Lauren, Nathaniel and Madeleine.  What a treat!  Too bad I did not think of taking a picture when all were there!

Next time!  The library plans to hold future pop up events!

 

Supporting Emerging Writers

 One of the most challenging aspects of teaching remotely is supporting our emerging writers.  Together with the collaborative efforts of you moms and dads, your children are doing great!  Here is another resource that was recently shared with through Twitter.

7 Continents

 We will begin to learn about the continents int he coming couple of weeks.  We will learn that children all around the world have many similarities and differences.

Oakley And Ms. P Visited With Us

Ms. Pavlicek of the school dept.'s Burlington Science Center joined us for a visit.  It was a wonderful surprise.  She introduced us to Oakley the snake and told us all about what he needs to survive.  We learned about what he does, where he would like in the wild and what he feels like.  It was awesome!

Here are a few facts:

Oakley is a corn snake and would typically be found in a corn field where he would enjoy eating mice and other small rodents.

Like us, snakes have a backbone and breath with lungs.

Snakes can not really smell but they use their tongue to taste the air to know what is around them.

Oakley is about 3 or 4 years old and will likely live about 20 years.

Be sure to chat with your kindergartner to learn a little more!

Ask if Oakley has ears or who how he moves without any arms or legs.
