 We read about and created penguins before heading into the holiday break.  

2020 has been a year like no other.  While there were many challenges for all of us, I hope your kindergartners' experience during the fall has brought some joy and happiness.  New relationships have been forged and friendships have grown.  Thank you for sharing your children with me!

Pajama Day Fun

This past week we celebrated Friday with a pajama day!  Kindergartners can work hard and have fun in their cozy sleep clothes!  Mrs. Hoyt was happy to be in her warm Frosty PJs!

Dear Kindergarten Families,

I would like to extend  warmest Holiday Wishes to all of our students and families. Students have learned about the 7 continents.  They  have also explored a variety of holidays over the past month or so and the common thread of focus is that each is all about families, love and celebrating together.  I will be celebrating Christmas with my loved ones and will also enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation! I truly love my job and students.  Having supportive and wonderful families make it even more pleasurable.  

Enjoy your family time and (small) gatherings!   There are no official homework assignments until January 2021. Of course, I encourage everyone to spend some time reading.  Each student was also given a new journal and I suggest they write in it over the break.  I would love to read about the adventures and activities of the next few weeks!  Encourage your child to post their writing on Seesaw.

Student of The Week

Cinnamon Air Fresheners

 Remote kindergartners were able to enjoy a hands on, messy, sensory exercise recently when they created air fresheners.  Made with yummy tasting ingredients applesauce and cinnamon, the dough looks dark and smells delicious.  It feels wet and sticky and made our hands messy.  

Everyone had to roll out dough balls, use a cookie cutter to cut the shape and then add a hole for the string.  Lots of direction following was involved. 

Holidays We Celebrate

 This past week kindergartners  learned about some of the Holidays we might celebrate. We read and learned about about Diwali, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year Kwanzaa.  Next week explore Naw Ruz, Eid and Christmas.   We also are creating a book to go along with these holidays. 

We learn that these holiday celebrations all have a lot in common including, spending time with family, exchanging gifts, delicious foods, new clothes, decorating, games, singing and light- most of the holidays have some type of light associated with it- Diya for Diwali, Menorah for Hanukkah, Candles for Christmas and the Kinara for Kwanzaa.  We will learn about the new moon at Eid, Christmas tree lights and the celebration of brighter spring days at Naw-Ruz.  

National Letter Writing Day

 Greetings Families,

Today, December 7th is National Letter Writing Day!  It is a good time to draw your attention to the special letter writing opportunity we have planned for later this month.  Writing letters is a wonderful way to practice writing names and more if attempting correspondence!  We will invite families to participate in a New Year's note exchange!  Informaiton will be included in the bags coming this week.

Pick up will be at the library on Wednesday evening and Thursday.

Happy Turkey Day

 We had a great Wednesday singing lots of turkey songs, doing turkey exercises, reading turkey books, including Turkey Trouble and the Plump and Perkey Turkey.  We also drew turkeys.
