Wow, we are a week into summer vacation and room 103 friends are continuing with their reading routines!  Way to go everyone!  Our class has read more than 1500 books on Epic!

2020 - 2021 Promises To Be Exciting And Revolutionary

DESE - The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has recently published guidelines about the re-opening of schools and planning for the fall in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Pine Glen team is positive it will be an exciting and revolutionary year!  Mindset it everything.  We are ready to work hard with families to create a wonderful learning experience for each of our students!

Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr will be busy preparing to meet our incoming students!  We have plans to take classes, to rest up and to organize the classroom.  Keep checking in for updates as we get closer to the start of the school year!

While we do not have all the answers we would like to do anything we can to connect with families to ease concerns and help with transitions.  Kindergarten classroom assignments have not been made as of yet, but feel free to reach out.  Regardless of class assignment, we are happy to connect and support you now.

Happy Last Day of Kindergarten and The Pine Glen Song

Room 103 - We just wrapped up our final class meeting of the 2019 - 2020 school year.  Wow!  What an amazing year it has been.  As I checked my email at the end of the meeting I saw that a colleague noted we had 68 days of remote learning.  - This will truly be a year we will not forget!

While it is hard to say good-bye at the end of a school year, this ending is especially emotional for many of us.  I would like to reiterate that Mrs. Kerr and I are not far away and would be happy to write, chat or email throughout the summer if your child would benefit from a little connection.  

They will always be part of our Room 103 family.

Today we introduced the Pine Glen Song.  It is a song students sing each year and one that connects us!  The Pine Glen staff has been singing it for students through the duration of our time away.

Thank you Room 103

Friday will be our last class meeting for PG Room 103.

We cannot believe that the year is over. Please remember Mrs. Kerr and I will be accessible through email or snail mail this summer.

Just because our formal school year has ended our students all have a piece of our hearts and we will always be here for them (and their families).

Thank you for helping us teach your children this year we were definitely a teaching team and we are so thankful for your help and commitment this year.

Dear Burlington Families,

As this unusual school year draws to a close, it is time to think about summer reading. Students have worked hard on their reading skills all school year, and it is so important to continue reading for fun over the summer. We wanted to share some resources with you so that your student(s) can enjoy some great books this summer.

Here are just a few, and most of them require only a library card, which you can get for free online at http://www.burlington.org/departments/library/index.php.
● Burlington Public Schools online via Sora - your student(s) can log in using his or her LASID number for access to ebooks and audio books. Sora will be available all summer.
● Burlington Public Library online via Sora. Use your library card to access audiobooks and ebooks. Burlington Public Library has begun curbside pickup.
● Boston Public Library online via Sora- use your Burlington Public Library card to access ebooks and audiobooks. Students who live in Massachusetts are eligible for a Boston Public Library card.
● Epic - Burlington students are able to continue to access for free for two hours a week over the summer through their teacher’s classroom.
● You can also purchase books at reasonable prices at the Super Used Bookstore on Cambridge Street. ● Audible app - listen to some great books while on a road trip, enjoying time at the beach, or taking a walk outside!   Listening to books is still reading. ○ Free access to some books while school is out or ○ Students can join for $9.95 a month (a 30% savings) and get a $10 Amazon credit.

We hope these resources will help you and your student(s) enjoy reading over the summer.

Pine Glen Spirit Day

In addition to Kindergarten Spirit week Celebrations, the Pine Glen community is having a spirit week!  
Room 103 will have a PJ day meeting on Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. Room 103 will have a Pine Glen Day Friday, but the Pine Glen Team is sharing photos for Wednesday!

Keep In Touch

Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr have missed being in the classroom with kindergarten friends.  We love being with our students.  It appears they have missed us too!  Cali was eager to give her teachers a big hug when we discovered her Bitmoji teachers!

We are hoping this may serve as a great motivator to inspire our students to write while away.  Take the Bitmoji teachers on some adventures and record what you do.  Keep a diary of adventures with Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Kerr.  We would love to read about all the fun things we are doing with you over the summer!  Kindergarten friends are welcome to share the journal during the summer or when they return in the fall.

All The Colors

Our colorful class of students has many favorite colors.  Be sure to share your favorite color!  We have heard from friends who love purple, blue and red.  Show us your green, yellow and  pink!

Travel Trip Is Over

  The passports are full!  We have traveled to many destination in our Country.  Be sure to see the last step of the unit.  Tell us about where you would like to go in person and why!

Ipad Returns

Please return borrowed ipads, cables and charging bricks next week!

Volunteers will be curbside at MSMS to await the returning of iPads, cables, and charging bricks.  

Olive Needs A Home

The Burlington Science Center still needs a summer home for our rabbit named Olive. We supply the cage, starter supplies and care sheet. She needs to find a home by Thursday this week. Animals are returned to the Science Center after Labor day. 

Please read the info and see pics below before considering keeping her through the summer. I am upfront and honest about the care involved. 

• Rabbits are high care animals...they are a little messy (hay on ground around the cage) and their urine smell can be strong on humid days or if litter box is not cleaned regularly..she IS litter box trained and the litter box should be cleaned at least every other day if not daily
• She has a large cage ( 3 feet by 3 feet) that needs to be kept indoors (school animal policy) and on the floor (they are ground comfort animals)...preferably near an area rug or carpet... tile and wood can be slippery for them but will work too..
• She needs at least a few hours of free roam/run time a day...my rabbits are free range all day and are not used to being closed in their cages all the time..a finished basement or extra room works well...I attached pics of what the set up may look like
• She does not always like to be picked up and snuggled...most rabbits do not but does like to be pet on the head
• She comes with 2 bins of supplies (bedding, hay)...plus food
• She sometimes can take a few days to settle in before she becomes comfortable to come out of her cage in a new home...sometimes she is immediately comfortable and comes right out..
• She does NOT like dogs and is stressed out around them...I don't recommend a home with dogs, unless she is kept in a separated room/level of house and kept away from the dog.
• She can be left for a 2-3 day weekend but any longer would need attending to

Resources Update

We know you have enjoyed having resources while home. Here is update as we head into summer.

Availability dates for accessing BPS Applications:

EPIC - full home access ends June 30. Families will have 2 hours per week for home access for the rest of the summer.

Lexia - until July 31

ST Math - until August 7

Seesaw won't expire but students don’t need to submit any activities in Seesaw. Teachers will not be responding to student work during summer months. Current Seesaw classes will be archived once the Student Information System turns over to the next school year. That should happen around August 10.

iReady - until August 14

Brainpop - available all summer through the Clever portal

Seesaw: Families and Students Can Download Student Journals

Families, using Seesaw Family and students, using Seesaw Class can download the child’s entire journal for each Seesaw class as a zip file on their computers. They will need to use a computer and a Chrome or Firefox browser, since the .zip file will not download on a mobile or tablet device.

We are discussing the closing of the school year this week
and next. It is important to take time to acknowledge the
changes and to celebrate the emotions associated with them.
Some of us are feeling excited to be ending the year while
others are feeling angst. We validate all the feelings as we
try to support one another through our final days.
