National Kindergarten Day

 Happy National Kindergarten Day!

Quoting Dr. Jean Feldman, "THE WORLD KEEPS CHANGING, BUT CHILDREN ARE THE SAME!  

THEY WANT TO BE LOVED, 

THEY WANT TO PLAY AND HAVE FUN, 

AND THEY WANT TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES!"

The 2020 - 2021 year has been unlike any other.  However, we have managed to sing and dance, learn and grow and love.

Looking forward to hands on play, in-person singing and lots of hugs in the 2021-2022 school year!

Cleaning Up

As we touch upon taking care of our planet, Earth, we will learn a new song by Dr. Jean! 

Litter Patrol

Well, here we go, (Clap and snap fingers to the beat.)
We’re on the litter patrol.
We’re going to work all day
To put the trash away.
The planet earth, you see
Is our habitat.
We’re going to clean it up,
Well, how about that!

Happy New Year

 We have friends with many backgrounds and traditions.  It is exciting to learn from one another!  Since January 1 when I celebrated New Years we have had many classmates celebrate New Year with their families.  

In February Chinese New Year was celebrated.

In March we wished a classmate happy Naw Ruz, which is Persian or Iranian New Year.

This week we wish Happy New Year to other friends as they celebrate Ugadi, the Telegu New Year and the Sikh New Year, Vaisakhi!

Mrs. Hoyt is learning about many traditions.  This is a video about Vaisakhi.

Plogging and Placking

 We celebrate Earth Day during the month of April.  

Mrs. Hoyt just learned about a new Burlington Group called:  Burlington, MA Plogging and Plalking.

The fun idea is to go out and jog (plog) or walk (plalk) and pick up trash while doing so.  You will take care of your body and your planet.  Wouldn't this be a fun way to encourage our chidlren to help the community?  

Keep Massachusetts Beautiful is an organization affiliated with Keep America Beautiful. They are currently running a campaign in which you pledge to join the Massachusetts litter clean up crew!  

Participants can even sign up to receive a special kit with gloves and a t-shirt!  

Let's all do our part to clean up our Community.

Recycling can be fun!  Here are some ideas shared by Dr. Jean:

SATURDAY, APRIL 10, 2021

RECYCLE ME, PLEASE!

You know all those cardboard food boxes you throw away? Well, here's a great opportunity to give them a second life, teach your children to recycle, and make some cool materials for your classroom. Send a note asking families to save their cardboard food boxes for a week and then let the fun begin!

Cardboard Castle 

Let children use masking tape to create a castle or other play sculpture.

                                     

What's for Breakfast? 

Each child chooses the front of their favorite cereal box. They can write original sentences or fill in the blank "(Child's name) likes (cereal)."

Puzzles 

Cut box fronts into puzzle shapes. Store in zip bags. For younger children use two like boxes. Cut one up and let them place the pieces on the second box.

                                         

Fronts and Backs 

Cut front and back panels off of boxes. Mix them up and then ask the children to match up the ones that go together.

                                                               

*Play a memory game where you place the fronts and backs face down on the floor. Children try to match up pairs.

Stencils and Templates 

Cut geometric shapes out of box fronts. Children can trace these with colored pencils, crayons, or markers.

*Cut seasonal shapes or objects that relate to a unit of study for the children to trace.

                       

Sewing Cards 

Punch holes around the sides of boxes. Children can sew these with yarn, string, or old shoelaces.

                                                   

Weaving – Cut notches around the sides of boxes and let children weave through these with yarn.

Fractions 

Give each child the front panel off a box. Can you cut it in half? Fourths? Eights?

                                                                             
Math – Have children sort the boxes by product, size, etc. Graph favorite cereals, cookies, crackers, etc.

Egg Hunt Fun

 The Egg Hunt fun continued over the weekend.  Hansika made her way to Mrs. Hoyt's house and found other words at classmate's homes!
