Gerbils

 

Ms. P deliverd a pair of gerbils to room 103 on Tuesday!  We will enjoy them and care for them over the next few weeks.  The gerbils are new additions to the Science Center and are nameless.  Our class has been charged with generating names for Ms. P!  Such fun!

We made connection to all living things and learned that the gerbils need food, shelter, water and to move (a lot).  We  learned the gerbils are like us, mammals with spines.

Mammals have spines, are covered with hair or fur and are warm blooded.  This means their body temperature should always remain the same and if it changes, like us, they are likely sick.

Gerbils are a special kind of mammal, called a rodent.  their teeth will always grow and they need to chew, chew, chew to keep their teeth from getting too long.  Good thing we collected so many recyclable cardboard pieces for our project!

2022 Turkey Tot

  

Special thanks to Pine Glen P.E. teacher  Ms. Govoni. We had a wonderful time at the annual Turkey Trot.  It was great to be outside celebrating a Pine Glen tradition!Despite chilly temperatures, students bundled up and ran, waddles, trotted and walked through a great morning of school community.  We had a terrific time cheering on our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade runners.  

Mrs. Clancy our 4th grade buddy teacher even dressed as a turkey!

It was great to cheer on and hug siblings and former students.

November Sing-A-Long

 To celebrate Thanksgiving we gathered with all the kindergarten students in the cafeteria for a sing along and snack time!

Treasure Exchange

Many have heard the phrase, "One man's trash is another's treasure."  Today we lived it!  Students were very enthused about our reuse event.  This was a great culmination of our efforts to learn about, explore and experience the benefits of reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose.  Our class had a great discussion about why we brought our treasures in from home.  Be sure to discuss this with your student.

In order to evaluate all of our options we took a walk through the display, careful to make note of all the choices with our eyes.  It certainly helped build the excitement.  We used choosing sticks to ensure turns were taken fairly.Discussions following the trade were lively.  Everyone agreed it was great to have new things.  Equally important, we all agreed that if felt good to see our friends happy, to know we are saving the planet and not just throwing our unwanted items in the trash.

Students really seemed to find joy in giving and sharing with others.  We talked about other ways we can help each other and others.  The Pine Glen Community is still collecting items for Burlington's People Helping People food pantry.  Room 103 has been generous, thank you!
