Some eggcellent and eggstra-special learning took place this week. There is lot to chat about this your children!
Our week began reflecting on the end of last week - be sure to ask about our life-skill program and Friday afternoon celebration! Everyone earned a bounce on the mini trampoline!
We learned a little bit about Australia when Enyi and her mom shared photos and stories about their family trip to celebrate Chinese New Year! We learned that February in Australia feels more like July here! Enyi got to wear short sleeves and sandals!
We ventured outside to test our sight words knowledge on Thursday! All participated in a sight word egg hunt! 60 eggs, containing the 60 words we have learned thus far were hidden on the hot top! We went hunting with a list and when we found a word, we read it and checked it off! Ask your child to read the list of words to you. They proudly took their lists home on Thursday afternoon.
Our 4th grade friends visited us for some reading, art study and spring crafts! We read Patricia Polacco's book, Rechenka's Eggs and then watched a video of Polacco decoration goose eggs with hot wax and dyes. As we have been learning about colors, as an extension of our color mixing experimentation, we dyed our own spring eggs trying to hard to mix primary colors to create secondary colors. This experiment was challenging but fun! Hopefully all the spring eggs made it home safely!
While some were color mixing others worked with Ms. Merlino, our 4th grade teacher friends who helps students make bunny/ducks!
Coloring eggs with various mediums was messy but fun!
It is not yolk! kindergartners were the stars of the show when Ms. P was here to teach us about the chicken's life cycle! Students in room 103 were called up and put on costumes to play a part in the presentation. They certainly were clucking about what fun they had and all they learned!
With a classroom full of future scientists, many who mention wanting to be veterinarians when they grow up they were giddy when Ms. P pulled out a live adult chicken and were even more thrilled when she invited students to pet it!
This week we also cracked eggs and wrote the cvc word contained inside them! In addition we used eggs to solve math equations and to create other cvc words. Mrs. Hoyt can find many uses for plastic eggs! It has been an eggceptional week of learning!
